Photos are a return ticket

We take photos as a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone.”

Beautiful quote isn’t it? Thanks to my friend for sharing that with me.

As a student of photography and aspiring photographer it brings me so much joy to be able to capturing life’s most memorable moments.

The nice thing about having a digital cameras is that you can shoot all you want.

In the film days it was way different. Your number of shots was limited and you had no idea what you captured until you developed your film. So if you messed up you wasted film and money.

Today you have no limits, if you make a mistake that’s OK, take another picture.

My tip for you aspiring photographers is to get out there and shoot. It can be anything just shoot!

Take as many pictures as you can and capture as many beautiful and meaningful moments as you possible can.

Always remember that a photo is a moment frozen in time and your job is to capture it.

So go out, practice and improve.

Life is about choices

Busy is a choice

Stress is a choice

Joy is a choice

Life is about choices.

We make choices from the moment we wake up to the moment we go to sleep.

You have the choice of waking up grouchy or happy in the morning.

You have the choice of eating breakfast or not.

You have the choice of leaving to work on time or not.

You have the choice of putting in your best effort at work or not.

You have the choice to make an impact on others or not.

As you can see your day will be packed with many choices and each choice you make will determine the kind of day you will have.

I try to live each day as best as I possibly can by making the following choices:

#1 – I wake up early and I give thanks for another day of life.

#2 – I make a healthy breakfast (oatmeal) every morning and work on my freelance projects.

#3 – I leave to work on time so I can arrive 15-10 mins early.

#4 – I try to keep a positive attitude at work even when difficult & stressful tasks arrive.

#5 – I workout 6X a week to improve my health.

#6 – I try and have patients for myself and others around me.

This one is important because not everyone around you is trying to make the same positive choices as you. I am not perfect and I don’t expect others to be perfect, so patients is key.

So try and remember that positivity always wins and I guarantee you that you will start making better choices and your day will be filled with many blessings.

The choice is yours! Have a blessed day guys!

Do one new thing today!

FullSizeRender(5)T.G.I.F. (The Grind Includes Friday)

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Friday!!!

Today let’s make an effort to do something that is out of our normal routine and that makes us uncomfortable.

It can be anything! Maybe it’s a project you have been putting off for some time? Working out, changing your diet, visiting a family member or friend, taking that class, learning an instrument, or playing a sport?

There are plenty of thing we all want to do but don’t do them because of fear or “lack of time

So today, I encourage you to do at least one new thing.

What I want to today is: Update my resume.

I have been putting this off for a good year now and I want to start sending it out.

Applying for a new job is the part that makes me uncomfortable, because change is scary. I know I have to get over that fear and keep my options open because this is the only way I will be able to grow as a professional.

I am officially too comfortable at my current job and that’s not good.

I want to advance in my career and I know its going to take change and new challenges in another work environment to do that.

I’ve learned all I can here and I can’t stop learn as a designer or keep designing for the same industry.

So that’s my goal for today. What is yours?

Let me know!

Express gratitude even for your difficulties!

Today express gratitude even for your difficulties.

We can’t just live life expressing gratitude for only the positive, because our difficulties, challenges and set backs are the lessons we learn from that will help us improve and grow. When we conquer our difficulties, we become stronger!

This is a reminder that things do get better. You might be experiencing a rough day, week or month, but just keep in mind that you will overcome your difficulties you just need to be patient.

Your difficulties will make you grow as a person and please always remember that there is light at the end of each tunnel.

I have difficulties all the time! When I get a designer’s block and have no ideas coming in, I  gets frustrated. I use this difficulty to motivate me to look around at my current surroundings and slowly but surely ideas start to flood my brain and I am able to design something great!

I experience difficulties with my body all the time. Currently I have a bad back that has limited me in my workouts but I’ve found ways around it. I do exercises that are good for my back and that don’t put too much pressure on it. I know that the pain won’t last forever and when I do get better I can increase my workout intensity. When that time comes my back will be stronger and it will be less prone to future injuries.

Express gratitude daily for everything life throws at you. If you are having a bad day and want to talk feel free to reach out to me on:

or email

I am here to listen and help if I can!

Have a blessed day and lets go out and get creative!

Hello everyone,

Today I wanted to write about and invite you to take a look at the available Photography Classes that the City of Ontario, CA provides for FREE.

These classes are on-going and only 4 times a month for 2 hrs (5:30pm – 7:30pm).

Every first and third Tuesday of the month we meet at Colony High School (in the library).

Every second and fourth Monday of the month we meet at the Ontario Senior Center.

We talk about:

  • Photography
  • Techniques
  • Equipment
  • How to become a better photographer.
  • And any questions you have.

What and how will you learn:

  • We do hands on training / camera manipulation (you dial in the camera setting).
  • You will learn what the buttons on your camera do.
  • You will learn about all the camera settings (auto, manual, aperture priority, shutter priority and program mode).
  • You will learn about editing software and how to edit.
  • You will learn about Flash / off camera flash / studio lights.
  • Most importantly you will learn how to use your camera on manual (no more auto).

Again these classes are FREE, because this is a city program. The instructor Ruben Rodriguez is an educated and professional photographer who is donating his time to teach/offer these classes because he has a true passion for photography.

I am so grateful my mom came across a flyer in the library promoting this class and she gave it to me. Since then, I’ve been attending for the last 3 years. In every class, I always learn something new that I can apply to better improve my photos.

Here are a few reasons why I am extremely grateful for this class and why I want to help promote it:

  1. I’ve found a mentor, someone who has the results I seek and is willing to teach me.
  2. My photography has improved, but there is still much more to learn and improve.
  3. I am more comfortable manipulating my camera.
  4. I am more confident now accepting requests for photo shoots.
  5. I enjoy practicing and learning.
  6. It’s a funny class and great environment.

So if you are interested in these classes and you want to attend or get more info, please feel free to reach out! All skill levels are welcome! No camera is required!

If you know anyone that could benefit from this class, please share this post with them. We want to spread the word out to as many people as possible so that they to can learn from a professional and improve their photography skills.

I will post the class dates/locations on my Facebook page if that is easier for you 🙂

Best regards,

A.L. Designs
